Blue Ridge Lumber Company is a hard wood sawmill located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. We specialize in Red and White Oak, Poplar, Ash, Hard and Soft Maple, Hickory, Cherry and Walnut. From these species we produce graded rough sawn and quartered/rift sawn lumber ranging in thickness from 4/4 to 16/4 specializing in 8/4 to 16/4.
Established in April of 1981, Blue Ridge Lumber Company LLC opened its doors with a circle mill and log procurement landing in Fishersville, Virginia. Over the next several years, as demand and productivity increased, we installed SII dry kilns, constructed our band mill and expanded our workforce to include second shifts.
The new millennium brought with it the acquisition of the Bells Valley yard in Goshen, Virginia. In 2004 we added 400,000 board feet of new SII dry kilns to this location, a move which has allowed us to increase our kiln drying capacity to 1.8 million board feet. Currently, our annual production is over 35 million board feet of lumber.
Inspired by the mountains surrounding us, Blue Ridge Lumber took an opportunity to tap into the natural timber resources of the Alleghany Highlands in Virginia and West Virginia. We opened the Highland County log yard in Monterey, Virginia in 2003, as well as the Covington log yard in Covington, Virginia in 2006.
In the summer of 2007 the Bradley family of Bradley’s Sawmill in Calahan, Virginia decided to retire after over 60 years in the industry. Blue Ridge Lumber Company welcomed the opportunity to purchase their operation. The transition from Bradley’s Sawmill to Blue Ridge Lumber Covington Mill and Log Yard was seamless.
Blue Ridge Lumber’s latest endeavor is Stillwater Woodworking in Augusta Springs, Virginia. This site features a Newman 382 planer, a Mereen – Johnson 431 gang rip system, a 800 B Ultimizer chop saw, and a Powermat 400 XL Weinig molder that will allow us to offer S2S, S4S, and ripping services.
Using our own fleet of trucks, we yearly ship an average of 1500 containers of veneer logs and lumber from the ports in Norfolk, Virginia to ports worldwide, including but not limited to the United Kingdom, Italy, China, Japan, and Taiwan. Further, we also ship by truck to our domestic clients and to our neighbors in Canada and Mexico.
Our dedication to provide consistent high quality Appalachian hardwoods to a global market, while simultaneously practicing sound forest stewardship, has rewarded us with a loyal customer base. We will continue to do our best in order to deliver the best.
